Guess what we did yesterday?

1) Put down a deposit on a new Honda Civic Hybrid, to be delivered in November

2) Adopted a dog

3) Donated a large sum of money to Sarah Palin, to assist in name recognition (ok, enough politics from me already)

Two of the above choices are true. Guess which two.

Introducing Rosie! She’s a five year old basset/beagle mix. I think she may be more basset than beagle, ’cause she’s pretty low-key. I’m pretty sure we just adopted an ottoman with a pulse.

She is very definitely a mama’s girl. She loves on me something fierce. Her favorite thing is belly rubs and hugs. And sleeping. She’s real big on sleeping. Rosie the Wonder Basset is also a little on the heavy side and could stand to lose a few. I may not be an expert, but I suspect a basset shouldn’t weigh 48 and one-half pounds.

Rosie doesn’t bark. Haven’t heard her yet. She went over and met Haley, our neighbors’ three year old labradoodle, did the whole sniffing thing, and left. Haley is still quite the puppy and Rosie was having none of that. Might interfere with finding a shady spot in the yard. Or sleeping.

So I’m sure there will be more stories of Rosie the Wonder Basset. She’s been with us about a day and we don’t know what we did without her. Astonishing that a passed-out ottoman can make such an impression.

  1. Congrats on the new addition (both of them, technically…).

  2. An ottoman with a pulse – bwahahahaha. Love it!

  3. cutie cutie dog. we have a beagle and he’s actually pretty low-key. except when he barks. but that usually wears him out for 2 – 3 days.

  4. Wow. She’s cute. Sounds like she’s very happy she found the perfect home!

  5. Bassetts are the best!! I had a basset growing up. Her name was Lola. She was such a great companion. Awesome about the Hybrid car!

  6. Congrats on the dog AND the car! Good for you. She’s a cutie.

  7. What a beautiful dog!

  8. Congrats on both! She’ll be a great addition to the family.

  9. Awwwwww…… So cute.

By the way, did you hear Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter is pregnant?

  10. You may want to invest in a ramp so Rosie can get into the new hybrid car. Bassets are notorious for their inability to scale tall things like um, volkswagens. They’re usually pretty good on stairs like in the house, although it is usually an effort to go up or down, but a car may require a portable ramp or step, particularly if it sits high off the ground. She is utterly adorable, though. And yeah, after one day you can’t imagine life without them. We’ve got Quinn the little Irish MinPin and I cannot remember what it was like to not have her here. My magical, bouncy, expressive, fearless little girl. Who weighs half what the cat does. Yeah. I get what you’re going through. Congratulations!

  11. Rosie is adorable! So cool about the car…wish I could talk my hubby into one!

Okay, so we didn’t get to go to the convention together but let’s shoot for celebrating sometime during the later part of the second week of November! ha ha

  12. Oh you have to give me the details, we may be in the market. I was ironically enough checking out labradoodle breeders (although we aren’t really the breeder type) but I do like their breed qualities, namely the shedding factor.

congrats, new car and new dog, wow!

  13. Cute!!!!!!! 🙂

  14. Congrats on the dog. Everyone in my fam is itching for one…except for me.

  15. Ottomans make the best pets! Rosie is a cool name. I picture her talking like Rosie Perez. If she could talk (the dog I mean).

  16. “I’m pretty sure we just adopted an ottoman with a pulse.”

  17. Congrats on the new member of the fam. You sound so happy to have her, it kind of makes me want to like my dog. Sigh.

  18. congrats on the new addition!
