Insanity is hereditary; you get it from your kids

It’s always darkest before dawn, right? I’m going to keep the faith that things will improve here.

A is still in a lot of pain because of the tonsillectomy, but is feeling just well enough to torment J and raise hell. And it’s a full moon. Yeah, yeah, nothing is connected to the moon’s phases. Come live in my house and you’ll change your tune. I know without looking at the sky or the calendar when it’s a full moon; the boys go off the chart. Picking on each other, tantrums, meltdowns, more defiant than usual, you get the idea. The last two days were abysmal and I’m glad they’re over. Example? Monday A pulled the wireless card out of my laptop without uninstalling it first. FUBARed my internet (FUBAR is my word of the week). Yesterday A got into my desk and used 6 39-cent stamps to stick things together. Looked at the sky last night and the Man in the Moon was giving me a big, full-moon smirk. And I think he may have been flipping me off, but that may have been a moonlight illusion.

And there’s further proof that Murphy, that lawless jackass, lives in my house. I’m running in my first 5k next month. I am trying desperately to hit the treadmill everyday so I don’t kill myself in my first 5k next month. The best time for me to walk/run is first thing in the morning, so I’ve been hauling my sorry butt out of bed at 5:45 so I can get on the treadmill and at least snag a shower before the boys are up between 6 and 6:30. (By the way, you folks out there whose kids sleep past 7, or until 8 or later? You have no idea how flipping lucky you are!). So let’s see how this week’s best laid plan went:
Monday: on treadmill by 6:00. A up and crying in pain by 6:15. Got a shower around 8:30.
Tuesday: on treadmill by 6:00. A up and crying in pain by 6:01. Gave up on treadmill and took care of him.
Wednesday: screw the treadmill. In the shower by 5:50, cleaned up for the day by 6:15, coffee in my system by 6:19. A up and crying in pain by 6:20. Woke up J by banging on the wall. Calmed down A, he went back to sleep, J went back to sleep. Got more coffee into system. Both boys rarin’ to go by 7:00.

Do we see a trend here? They’re conspiring against me. If I get up and run, they’re up in crabby moods. If I sleep in or get up and get cleaned up, they sleep a leeeetle bit later and are pleasant. I hope they choose a good nursing home for me, ’cause I’m going to end up in one sooner rather than later because of my poor health brought on by those two. ; ) What are they doing right now? At 7:45 am, they are sitting on the back porch eating breakfast and watching the hot air balloons and construction trucks. Pleasant, sweet, nice to each other. Little boy heaven.

My plan is to get before/after pictures of the basement (and especially my happy place, my new scrap room) sometime today. I see that Blogger has a scheduled outage this afternoon, so we’ll see if that actually happens. At least we got warning about the outage this time.

They’re still sweet. So far, so good. Have a great day!

  1. Hope A is feeling better soon and things calm down a little for you!

  2. I am a true believer in the full moon phase – and heaven help us if it falls on Friday the 13th. Anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant can attest to the plain & true facts.
